The Emergency Car Kit
We were all in various stages of drunkeness and the bar was closing. We were all going to meet up at Smashley’s down the street for the after-hours drinking.
There were six of us; myself, Smashley, Lynzard, Nicole O, Donne, and Nicole Marie Lenz. We got back…well most of us. However, Lynzard and Nicole O were nowhere to be found. We waited and waited. And waited. They were driving together and we were theorizing that they got stopped by the police on the way home.
In the meantime, we were in desperate need of entertainment…but long story short, Smashley’s apartment was a wreck. There was no working TV or even radio. There was cat urine and feces all over the carpet. Garbage was overpiling with empty beer cans and old Taco Bell. In fact, the cats had gotten into some three-day old burritos and there was cat puke everywhere too.
Donne asked if anyone had any pot. Smashley, no, she doesn’t even smoke pot anymore. Nicole Marie Lenz had nothing either. And I rarely smoke pot so I definitely don’t have— WAIT THE EMERGENCY CAR KIT!
YES DONNE I HAVE POT!! AND PAPERS!! ITS IN MY EMERGENCY CAR KIT!!!
In the back of my car is a slightly-customized emergency car kit. It contains things like 2400-calorie Coast Guard Ration Bars, a 33 piece First Aid Kit, Water Purification Tablets, and Thermal Blankets. Of course, I added some other things to it. I added medicine like aspirin and antacids. Hygiene products like deodorant. And then a few other things…
I run outside as everyone else waits inside, slightly confused but mostly amused.
We smoke. I show everyone else the contents of my emergency car kit. I even pull out a radio so we can listen to music.
Laughing, Donne jokes, “What else do you have in there, a bottle of Bacardi?”
Laughing, I think, what? Are you psychic? I pull out a 3/4 full bottle of Barcadi 151. We all do a warm shot. We spend a lot of the night in high/drunk induced frenzy of cleaning up cat urine at 3 in the morning. And eventually, thankfully, Lynzard and Nicole O eventually stumbled back to the apartment, but they missed it all.
Always be prepared!
